A new choice: no grave, no tombstone, just a return to nature

A non-religious, back-to-nature burial method

Forest ash scattering is a new way of saying goodbye – cremated remains are powdered and scattered at the base of trees in mountains and forests, returning them to the earth. In Japan, this approach is becoming increasingly popular, especially among those who value environmental sustainability or prefer not to follow traditional religious practices. One of the defining features of this method is that it doesn’t require a grave. Since there’s no need to build a tombstone, the cost is significantly lower, and there’s no need for future upkeep, such as cleaning or inheritance. For families living far away, it reduces both emotional and financial burdens, while still allowing for a peaceful and natural memorial. This is a warm, inclusive approach to burial that honors the desire to return to nature, regardless of religion or nationality.
• Available to foreign residents in Japan
• An eternal, environmentally friendly memorial service that does not require a tombstone
Note: Burial in the ground is not supported.
